Coming Soon is a solo performance by Soraya Leila on pleasure, desire, and the female gaze, with a pre-premiere at Théâtre de l'Oriental in Vevey from 7th to 11th of January 2026 and premiering from 27th to 29th of March 2026 at Tanzhaus Zürich.
The work is a continuation of Soraya Leila's previous choreographic work on female pleasure and the maturation of the initial research Odalisque: My Body in Private Spaces, initiated in 2020 at Tanzquartier Wien.
Coming Soon, inspired by Ingres’ La Grande Odalisque, initiates a process of emancipation from the painting itself.
The solo work subverts this iconic figure and challenges the Orientalist clichés that shaped its representation, playing with them and undoing them with humor to open up alternative narratives, possibilities and imaginaries.
On stage, a changing and multifaceted figure appears: playful, mischievous and cheeky. Through a journey of characters and tableaux, she masters pleasure as a skill. She plays with the fantasy of an image we think we know but never really see.
As a series of transforming scenes, a visual language emerges in which the painting is narrated and subverted. Through grotesqueness and exaggeration, the images are distorted and multiplied, making intentional ambiguity a space for play.
Coming Soon: something that is always about to come but never fully comes. What or who is coming soon? Is there something coming at all?
